Low-Cost Spring Break Staycation Fun in HEB

Not every vacation from the school schedule can include an ultimate destination. So, since you may be staying close to home for spring break, let’s look at the many fun things to do right here that are out of the usual routine. It’s time to check them out and make it a fantastic spring break with the family! Spring Break is traditionally nine days long so here’s a list that will help you tackle each day creatively, no matter how much time you have.

Got a Menu? How about getting the kids in on making the menu and going grocery shopping for the week. Brainstorm themed meals like Italian or Mexican. Perhaps even picking up matching paper plates that make it more festive! Bonus if you look up a game played in that country and give it a try! Here's an easy dish to make with the kids called Rainbow Spaghetti from Shannon at Everyday Best. (Here's a bit o' beverage for an Irish Melon cocktail for the grownups while you're there.)

Got Movies? Your four local theaters are happy to entertain you! However, a comfy couch or floor of pillows with homemade popcorn and reasonably priced candy and drinks may just fit the bill! Your three local libraries have free movie rentals for a week... There’s a Redbox on almost every corner which won’t break the bank… Binge-watch that first day and let the movie-watching slip from afternoon into evening! The kids will feel like they’re really getting away with something!

Got a Museum? Who knew Euless has such a rich history! Check out the Euless Historical Society's museum at 201 Cullum Drive. There’s the CR Smith Aviation Museum in our backyard, too. Ever been? A bit of a drive east would take you to the Dallas Museum of Art, which has free admission any day of the week. For a $12 fee per child, there's Small World, Big Imagination exploratorium for the little ones in Southlake, too, for all-day play.

Got a Minute? How about a service project of some kind? Spend a few hours one day volunteering! It’s always good to be reminded how blessed we are. You may know an organization already that needs volunteers but www.volunteermatch.org is helpful too.

Got a Towel? Are your kiddos just dying to get in the water?? City pools won’t be open yet, but Great Wolf Lodge is open year round! How FUN would that be to spend a night there and swim, swim, swim! It's definitely a splurge but serious bragging rights included! There's also the brand new Epic Waters Indoor Water Park not too far up the road in Grand Prairie. Open year round with  snow, rain or unrelenting sun.

Got Crafts? Start planning out your kids' gift-giving and party favors for the season and take this opportunity to share the work and the fun with the whole family. Check out these great DIY ideas from local blogger Dwan at Life.Family.Joy. :  Easter | St. Patrick's Day | Birthdays

Got a Picnic Blanket? If you and your kids plan out your meals, design one meal to be a picnic. After preparing it, pack up the car with the basket or cooler of food and a few outside games and go explore a park! Don’t forget a blanket or two and your charged phone for those candid moments!

North Richland Hills picnic

On Wednesday, March 14, join North Richland Hills families for the Grand Family Picnic at Heritage Village Plaza! There will be FREE In-And-Out served from 11a until 1p, free cupcakes, plus games and activities. There's even live music from Trout Fishing in America.

Here are a few other ways to keep kids busy for Spring Break in Hurst, Euless, Bedford and beyond:

North Texas Bulls Baseball Club

- Special discounted spring break pricing for Dinner & Tournament at Medieval Times in Dallas

- The Perot Museum Tech Truck will be at the Maker Spot at NRH Library March 14th.

- Six Flags is never far away, and they do it up right over Spring Break too.

Look at you! Now you’re filled to the brim with ideas when the kids say, “It’s going to be a BORING Spring Break!” No, it’s not! Because you’ve got a plan for staying close to home and you’ve Got Game! How old are your kids and how will you spend this precious time together?
